Lynda Holt National Memorial Award

An annual trophy and keeper Fred Stone plate has been kindly donated and was presented by Lynda’s dear friend Sandy Green on Saturday, July 13.

In a special presentation held on Saturday, July 13th, Zolento was named the recipient of the Lynda Holt National Memorial Award, presented to the High Point Hunter horse that accumulated the most points in the Baby and Pre-Green Hunter divisions over the two-week Ottawa Summer Tournaments.  Zolento, who is known as “Mr. Baby” around the barn, is owned by Looking Back Farm of Tottenham, ON, and was ridden by Courtney Bacso of Kitchener, ON.

This annual trophy is in memory of Lynda Marion Holt who passed away unexpectedly last December. Lynda was a well-respected horseperson, an EC steward, former EC judge, rider, breeder, trainer, show organizer, and proprietor of Highland Farm. Lynda was well known in the industry for her sense of humor, no nonsense approach, and her ability to select top hunters. Lynda’s first love was the Thoroughbred horse, and many had second successful careers as hunters after their time at the track.

Here’s Johnny, Sun Poppy, Where’s Alex, Kato, Tariff Time, Cover Girl, Vegas, Country Classic, Mosca Don, If Wishes Were, Strictly Confidential, No Apologies, Without a Doubt, Trademark, Timely Venture, Softly Spoken, Wedgewood, Solon, Friendly Persuasion, Araki Kat, Seville, Chase Me Charlie, Mackenzie’s Honour, and It Takes Two are only a few of the many horses to go through Lynda’s capable hands.

Lynda sold over 1000 horses in her lifetime and many of these were decorated winners year after year from the provincial circuits all the way to the Royal Winter Fair. Of those, many went on to see incredible success in the US.

Earlier this season, the Lynda Holt Memorial Regional/Provincial Horsemanship prize was presented to Olivia Van Den Berg by our show steward team at the Slide into Summer competition.

Greatly missed by many, Lynda’s legacy will live on in the many trainers and industry professionals that her influence helped to shape.
